ARCHITECTURAL VINYLS

Q: What surfaces can Architectural Vinyl films be applied to?

A: Our premium interior architectural wraps can be applied to any smooth, flat, non-porous, and clean surface. They are highly optimized for surfacing kitchen cabinets, worktops, doors, sealed MDF, plastics, glass, metals, and varnished wood. They will not adhere well to unsealed plaster, rough concrete, or heavily textured surfaces.

Q: Can you apply architectural vinyl wrap directly over raw MDF or Plywood, and what surface preparation is required?

A: Apply a high-quality acrylic wood sealer, water-based primer (like Rustins Quick Dry MDF Sealer), or a dedicated architectural film primer like 3M WP-2000. This creates a non-porous, plastic-like barrier that locks in the dust and gives the vinyl adhesive a solid surface to grab onto. Let it dry completely.

Q: Is interior vinyl wrap heat-resistant and waterproof for kitchens and bathrooms?

A: Yes. Architectural films are fully waterproof and highly moisture-resistant, making them ideal for bathroom units and kitchen splashbacks. Most are heat-resistant up to 75°C (167°F), meaning they can withstand everyday kitchen environments, though you should always use coasters or hot pad for boiling pots and pans. Check our our Worktop Section for the most Durable Vinyls for worktops & Tables.

Q: What is the lifespan and durability of architectural vinyl?

A: When properly installed indoors, our architectural films have an expected lifespan of up to 10 years. They feature a scratch-resistant protective layer and are UV-stabilised to ensure they will not fade, yellow, or crack when exposed to daily sunlight.

Q: Are wrapping vinyls removable?

Yes they are fully removable if you every get bored of the look. The best thing about them is you can have a new look every year without replacing the furniture! Just use a heatgun to soften the glue beofre pulling the vinyl off. If going over painted or weak surfaces it might pull some paint up when removing.

Q: How do I safely clean and maintain architectural vinyl wrap surfaces (like kitchen cabinets and worktops)?

A: To clean your vinyl wrap, simply wipe the surface with a soft microfiber cloth and warm, soapy water, drying it immediately after. For stubborn grease, use a 50/50 mix of water and Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA). Never use abrasive scrubbing pads or harsh chemicals like bleach, acetone, or ammonia, which can scratch or dull the film's protective layer. Lastly, ensure highly pigmented spills like red wine, coffee, or curry are wiped up immediately to prevent permanent staining.

AUTOMOTIVE VINYLS

Q: What is the difference between standard vinyl and wrap with "Air Release Technology"?

A: Air Release Technology (often called bubble-free vinyl) features micro-channels engineered into the adhesive backing. As you apply pressure with a squeegee, trapped air escapes through these channels, completely eliminating bubbles and creases for a flawless, professional finish. All Wrap Direct automotive films feature this technology.

Q: How long does a vehicle wrap last, and how do I wash it?

A: Our premium range of PET Automotive Wraps generally last 3 to 7 years depending on climate exposure and whether the vehicle is garaged. To maximise its lifespan, we highly recommend hand-washing your wrapped car with a pH-neutral automotive shampoo. Avoid high-pressure jet washes closer than 30cm to the vinyl edges, and do not use harsh abrasive waxes or mechanical car washes. Our Eco range of Automotive vinyls are graded for 1 to 2 Years with the same care.

Q: What temperature should I wrap in?

A: It is always best to wrap indoors at room temperature (68°F / 20°C) or above. The warmer it is, the easier it is. If you cannot get access to a garage or anywhere indoors make sure it is a warm day with no wind if wrapping the exterior of your vehicle.

Q: How much vinyl wrap do I need to order for my car or bike?

As a general rule of thumb, a standard sedan or hatchback requires about 15 meters, while larger SUVs, estates, and vans need between 20 to 25 meters for full coverage. Always check our Vinyl Wrap Size Guide for specific vehicle breakdowns, and don't forget to add a 10–15% buffer to your measurements to account for mistakes, trimming, and deep recesses.

Q: What is the difference between standard gloss vinyl and the PET Series?

Standard gloss vinyl uses a paper backing, which can leave a slight texture known as "orange peel" on the surface. Our Premium Super Gloss PET Series utilizes a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic liner. This ultra-rigid backing ensures the adhesive lays completely flat during manufacturing, resulting in a mirror-like, ultra-smooth finish that genuinely looks like real automotive paint.

Q: Can I wrap my car myself, or do I need a professional?

You can absolutely do it yourself! Modern vinyl wraps feature air-release technology (tiny channels in the adhesive) that makes escaping trapped air bubbles incredibly easy. However, wrapping requires patience. If you are a beginner, we highly recommend starting small, try wrapping flat interior trim piece parts, a roof, or a wing mirror before tackling an entire vehicle.

Q: What basic tools do I need to install a vinyl wrap?

To get a professional-looking finish, you will need the following core tools: A high-quality felt-edge squeegee (to smoothly apply the vinyl without scratching it). A heat gun (essential for stretching the vinyl around curves and post-heating). A precision cutting blade or Knifeless Tape (to cleanly cut edges without scratching your paint). 70% Isopropyl Alcohol (for flawless surface preparation).

PEEL & STICK TILES + PANELS

Q: Can self-adhesive composite tiles be installed behind a kitchen hob or stove?

A: Yes, our composite tiles are fire-retardant and highly heat-resistant. However, they must not come into direct contact with open flames. For safety and longevity, ensure a minimum clearance distance of 15cm (6 inches) between the tiles and gas burner hobs or high-heat cooking surfaces.

Q: Are peel and stick composite tiles waterproof enough for a shower enclosure?

A: While the tile faces are 100% waterproof and perfect for kitchen and bathroom splashbacks, we do not recommend installing them directly inside a wet shower enclosure where water pools constantly. If you choose to install them in a high-moisture zone, all tile seams and perimeter edges must be sealed with a high-grade silicone sealant to prevent water from compromising the adhesive backing.

Q: How do I cut Peel & Stick Composite Tiles for a perfect fit?

A: For straight cuts, simply score the front face of the tile several times with a sharp utility knife against a metal straight edge, then firmly snap it along the scored line. For complex shapes, corners, or cutting around electrical sockets, use a pair of heavy-duty tin snips, a manual tile cutter, or a jigsaw equipped with a fine-toothed metal blade. Always leave the protective backing paper on while cutting to keep your measurements precise and protect the adhesive from debris.

Q: What surfaces can I install Peel & Stick Composite Tiles on?

A: Our self-adhesive composite tiles bond permanently to smooth, flat, non-porous surfaces, including existing ceramic tiles, painted drywall, glass, stainless steel, acrylic, and sealed wood. They will not adhere properly to textured walls, unsealed raw plaster, peeling paint, or wallpaper. Before installation, ensure the surface is completely dry and thoroughly degreased with Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) to guarantee a flawless, high-strength bond. Allow freshly painted surfaces to cure for 6 weeks before applying tiles.

Q: Can I install self-adhesive wall panels over textured walls or existing wallpaper?

A: For the absolute best bond, our 3D wall panels require a smooth, dry, and dust-free wall surface. If your wall is heavily textured (like Artex or rough plaster) or has peeling wallpaper, the panels will not adhere properly. We recommend removing old wallpaper, sanding down textures, and applying a wall primer before installation.

Q: How do I remove peel and stick wall panels without damaging the drywall?

A: Because our wall panels use a high-strength permanent adhesive bond, pulling them off dry can tear the drywall paper. To remove them safely, apply heat to the surface using a heat gun or high-powered hairdryer. This softens the adhesive core, allowing you to slowly pull the panel away with minimal to no wall damage. Residual glue can be cleaned using an adhesive remover.

Q: How do I cut the Peel & Stick Wall Panels?

A: Use a sharp utily knife and steel ruler to cut through the panels. Always leave the protective backing liner on while cutting to keep your measurements precise and protect the adhesive from debris.
